Meat is a big expense, so watching for sales and buying larger quantities saves money. Also, you can buy the tougher, cheaper cuts of beef then cook them in the crock pot. They turn out as tender as filet mignon.

Helpful items for these recipes:

A cast iron skillet is essential in our Simply Roasted Chicken recipe. Because they are so dense and heavy, they distribute and keep their heat well. They become "seasoned" over the years and actually acquire a non-stick surface. Everyone should have a good cast iron skillet.

I always use grapeseed oil. It has a higher smoking point than olive oil or canola oil. What does that mean? It's much harder to burn your food! (Whenever the oil starts to burn, then your food starts to burn.) If your grocery store doesn't have it, you can order it here from amazon and benefit our website. These purchases actually keep our website free for everyone.

More Money Saving Strategies:

Simply making your meals at home saves money. When eating out, we are also paying for service, buildings, inventory, and probably advertising, too! No wonder we can prepare almost any recipe at home for less. An expensive restaurant meal will cost way less made at home.

I've found that my grocery's butcher section puts out discounted meat in the morning. The shopper who are there early can get the meat on sale. If you can't use it right away, it can easily be frozen in a freezer ziploc bag.

You can also buy large sections of beef and ask the butchers to either grind it into hamburger or slice it into roasts or steaks. The larger section of meat is cheaper, and they will cut or grind it for free.

Shopping around the perimeter of the grocery store will save money, too. Why? Most of the prepared packaged food are the interior aisles. We pay more for factories to partially prepare our meals. The outer part of the store is usually most fresh food: produce, meat and dairy. It's funny that fresh (better) food is actually cheaper.

Many college students live on potatoes, ramen noodles or soup as the main part of their diets. Add a little protein (meat or beans) and a fresh vegetable, and your stomach and your wallet will feel full.

Cheap Dinner Recipes can be healthy and easy.
