Crunch Times, Issue #2014-2 - How to Enjoy Spring Break

How to Enjoy your weight during Spring Break
We tend to eat more comfort foods in the winter. Could the cold temperatures send a biological signal to our bodies that we should store extra fat to survive through the winter? Maybe.
Let's give ourselves a "break" during Spring Break this year. A break in our negative attitude about ourselves.
First, make a new habit to lose weight, such as:
• Overhaul your breakfast. When you make yourself learn to eat a healthy, high-fiber breakfast, a miracle happens. You suddenly are eating one great/healthy meal every day! That's a big deal. Click here for great ideas for breakfast.
• Overhaul your snacks. This makes a big difference for me. I started eating an apple every afternoon. I have a tendency to want to treat myself for every snack; you know, last night's cookies and the cupcakes my husband
brings home from work. It sneaks up on you! Here is our List of Healthy Snacks.
Second, make a new habit to not beat yourself up about your weight.
• Buy clothes that fit you NOW. You look good at any weight in clothes that fit (not too tight OR too loose). When your clothes make you feel like a million bucks, you get an attitude lift.
• Give yourself a gift - the gift of time. Have you accepted the fact that your body wants to lose weight slowly - 1-2 pounds a week. It's a reality of life. You can't become a pro athlete in 2 weeks, you can't become a concert pianist in 2 weeks, and you can't lose 20 pounds in 2 weeks. Adjust your mindset.
Everyone needs new Chicken Recipes
But we all get so tired of our usual chicken recipes, don't we?
We have lots of chicken recipes, but here are our favorite Chicken Thigh Recipes. Chicken thighs are extremely easy to cook; in fact, you can hardly mess them up! They also are the best chicken to use in the crock pot.
Seeing that picture of barbeque chicken thighs reminds me I haven't made them for a long time. Looks like a great idea for this weekend! Enjoy!
New (and awesome) Carb Chart
A lot of people want more information about carbohydrates.
We have an amazing new chart that lists Low Carb Foods AND Low Glycemic Foods.
We can't just pick one fact about nutrition and think that is the "secret" of losing weight. You can get all worked up about only eating low carb foods, but then you're missing out on a whole bunch of low glycemic foods.
*Low Glycemic is actually a better measure of what foods do to our bodies. The glycemic index measures how fast (bad) or slow (good!) our body digests foods.
Print out the list of low carb foods, and see how your diet measures up!
